What equipment do i need for a Home Recording Studio?

Posted: June 22, 2011 – 10:36 pm

A just vocal studio, what are all the stuff i need ? and if possible what kind of brands would u suggest for a good price?

There are many things you can buy for a Home recording studio. But the first question is "what’s your budget?"

Because you can buy interesting recording gear for $300. Read this answer to get some ideas:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100505183829AAjfoGJ&r=w&pa=AptqD2bwHTHc6eWGZqkzuTuwKY6gcWb4rYGu33R9Z36m_HF5yFlFp4ZmzHNntK9f2WlU_V.QeIHIYw–&paid=voted

Remember to buy a mic stand, pop filter and some acoustic foam. Of course, there is a cheaper alternative. You can always buy a good USB Recording mic, a pop filter and a mic stand and that’s all. Use audacity to record your stuff and that’s all. One of the best mics out there is Samson C01 Pack usb mic. Read more features of this amazing USB mic on Amazon:

Cheapest way to build a recording studio?

If you are trying to go cheep spend what little money you can find on bed foam and line the rest of the wall walls with egg shell cartons.

What are some good recording equipment for starting a rap studio?

Posted: June 19, 2011 – 7:17 am

My friend and I want to make a studio to record some rap songs and etc. Im not familiar with all the speaker brands/mics/software so could some one help us out? We cant spend too much so if possible could you send links from amazon or some other store that has good prices on their stuff? Thanks alot. Id really appreciate it :)

Absolute cheapest:

Audio Technica AT2020 USB Mic – just plug this straight into your computer USB port:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AS6OYC?ie=UTF8&tag=mntlkhmpg-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B001AS6OYC

Use a pop filter, hang blankets up near the walls to deaden sound, and you’re good to go.

Next cheapest, not bad for a beginner setup, and actually pretty good:

SM58 + Mackie VLZ3 into your computer soundcard:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CZ0R42?ie=UTF8&tag=mntlkhmpg-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B000CZ0R42

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00132EJJW?ie=UTF8&tag=mntlkhmpg-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B00132EJJW

With the SM58 you can hold it right up to your mouth for bassy proximity effect, it’s actually a good rap mic.

And this here will get you pro-level:

Apple iMac + SM7B mic + Apogee Duet interface:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YKXGIK?ie=UTF8&tag=mntlkhmpg-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B004YKXGIK (iMac)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002E4Z8M?ie=UTF8&tag=mntlkhmpg-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B0002E4Z8M (SM7B)

http://www.amazon.com/Apogee-Duet-Audio-adapter-FireWire/dp/B000XANK90/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1306728593&sr=1-1 (Apogee Duet 1st Gen)

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Duet2/ (Apogee Duet 2nd Gen)

As for software, on the Mac go for Logic Express 9 or Logic Studio 9. On the PC, well there’s Reaper, Pro Tools, and Adobe Audition.

Most important though you’ll need studio monitor speakers. The cheapest I’d go there are Yamaha HS50M…

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QPH1CO?ie=UTF8&tag=mntlkhmpg-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B000QPH1CO (you’ll need a pair)

or the HS80M (more bass)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QPHCB4?ie=UTF8&tag=mntlkhmpg-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B000QPHCB4 (need a pair)

…if you want accurate sound to mix accurately. That’s actually the most important part of your studio, because without good monitoring your mix will suck on other people’s stereos. If you really don’t care about your mix being tops but still want it to sound good, then at least get some decent headphones like the Audio Technica ATHM50s:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ULAP4U?ie=UTF8&tag=mntlkhmpg-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B000ULAP4U
