How could I set up a basic home recording studio?

Posted: December 30, 2011 – 1:14 am

I want to set up a small recording studio in my bedroom. I don’t want to spend a lot of money on it, but i want to be able to record decent stuff. What basic equipment would I need and could you give me any recommendations?

Not sure what your budget is but the cheapest set up needs a USB mic, recording software, & headphones. All of it can be done for around $150.

What Recording Equipment Does My Band Need?

Posted: December 30, 2011 – 1:14 am

I’m trying to make myself an affordable home studio to record my band. What affordable equipment do I need to get a good sounding recording? And about how much would it all cost?

We have 2 guitar players, a bass player, a clean vocalist, a screaming vocalist, and a drummer.

Thanks for the help!

Any good PC with a M-Audio 1010L sound card will do. Or the full size 1010 if serious. I’ve had a studio for years.

The M-Audio sound card will come with some lite software from abelton or cubase.

If you have a pc, you will just need the sound card. You can record live but for best results record vocals separate.

Help on home recording studio setup?

Posted: December 30, 2011 – 1:14 am

ok, i have a basic setup, (audacity, keyboard) But need a bettter mic! I found the Behringer C1 which is a condenser for about £30! The reviews are good, but does anybody have this, or had experience with it? Also, would i need to get a small mixer, or could i carry on using the one i have? Im using a mixer with a built in amp, its designed for PA! ANd im using a portable keyboard, but would a midi work netter?

Any help appriciated!

The Behringer mic will need a mic nput with phantom power. You will have to check to see whether your mixer has this.

That is a great mic for the money.

A USB audio interface is a great way to record too. You will need one with phantom power too:

I have no opinion on the keyboard, but I would try it with the new setup before getting a new one with MIDI.

Which OS is best for home recording studio – Windows 7 or XP?

Posted: December 23, 2011 – 2:01 am

I’ll be using home recording software as well as things like FL Studio for MIDI keyboard use. I’m thinking of using XP again because Windows 7 is pissing me off, it won’t let me install anything, at least XP will run anything you put onto it. Suggestions?

I use XP for my home recording studio. I have no problems caused by the operating system and I do lots of midi stuff including using an external midi keyboard and multi-track virtual instruments. I’m sure it’ll be just fine for you needs.

Hope that helps!

What is some good starter recording equipment?

Posted: December 23, 2011 – 2:00 am

I am in a band. I need recording equipment to record our band straight to a computer. My computer is top of the line and custom built last week. It will run anything. I need to know what are some good ways and products to hook our instruments (Mic, Guitar, bass, keys, drum mic) straight to the computer. And also need a good vocals mic. I’m on a really tight budget. really tight.
