i need to know how much a cheap recording studio will cost, please make a list on equipment and what an average but cheap price is
leave links for the equipment if you find it online
thanks

The answer to your question is first going to depend on whether or not you have a computer. Since I don’t know if you have a computer, I’ll outline a few different scenarios for you. Keep in mind, my suggestions are "cheap prices" as you requested. I assume you already have some headphones.

For each scenario I will recommend the same microphones. I have had extremely good luck with the Behringer B5 and B2 models. The B5 is a small condensor microphone perfect for micing instruments. It sells for under $100. The B2 is a large condensor microphone which works great for vocals. It sells for around $150.

Scenario 1: No computer

I would recommend an all-in-recorder such as the Yamaha AW16G. You can buy them used on eBay for around $300. It can recording 8 tracks at a time and play back 16. You can record, mix, add effects, and burn a CD.

AW16G = $300 used
B5 mic = $85
Total = $385

Scenario 2: You own a PC

First you’ll need some way to get the audio into your computer. This device is called an interface. I have had good luck with the Focusrite Saffire LE. It sells for around $220 on eBay. It can record up to six tracks at a time. Only two of those tracks have preamps though.

Next you’ll need recording software. Sonar is a great program. The home studio version costs about $100.

Focusrite = $220 used
Sonar = $100
B5 Mic = $85
Total = $405

Scenario 3: You own a Mac

For your audio interface, I still recommend the Focusite Saffire LE.

Newer Macs come with a program called Garageband. It is awesome and it is FREE.

Focusrite = $220 used
Garageband – Free
B5 Mic = $85
Total = $305

Lastly, there will be some hidden fees like mic cables, adaptors, extra mics, mic stands… These things can add up. But if you buy them one at a time, before you know it, you’ll have a rockin’ setup.

Good luck!

Ron

What do you need for a home recording studio?

Posted: February 26, 2010 – 12:40 am

I just need to know what i need to buy to make a home recording studio. i am a songwriter/singer and i write great songs, and i have the perfect beats in my head. I was thinking of getting cubase 5. i have no equipment at all. can someone help me?

This is a great time to begin a project like this. With just a computer and a few pieces of gear you can make a great sounding home recording studio.

What you’ll need:
- A computer
- Audio Interface
- Basic Recording Software (bundled with most Audio Interfaces)
- Large Diaphragm Condenser Mic

Assuming you already have a home computer, I’d recommend starting with a USB Audio Interface such as this one:
http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/MAudio-Fast-Track-Pro-Mobile-USB-Audio-MIDI-Interface?sku=241710

This gives you everything you need to get started with your recording including:
- phantom power supply (powers the condenser mic)
- microphone preamp (boosts the weak mic level signal)
- analog / digital converters (converts electrical mic signal to a digital form that computers can understand)
- basic recording software (for recording your tracks on the computer)

Moving on I’d go with a large diaphragm condenser mic for recording your vocals:
http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/AudioTechnica-AT2020-Large-Diaphragm-Cardioid-Condenser-Microphone?sku=270620

In general for a mic — I’d recommend a large diaphragm condenser style because of its sensitivity to the human voice. A dynamic mic, for example, would still work but it would lose some of the nuances of your performance.

This setup should get you started… spending much more on mics and preamps will probably not bring much better results unless your studio is an acoustically treated space.

If my initial assumption was wrong and you still need a computer too, then I’d recommend getting as much RAM as possible. This will help your recording sessions go smoothly.

I Wanna Get Like A Small Lil Setup In My House , and Liek I Found These Two : http://www.djkit.com/product.php?id=1748&cat=137
&

or if Dere Is Any Better Ones For Bout Dis Budget , Can Ya Say…

Either of those will work great. I own a lot of Behringer equipment, and it all has been rock solid.

What is the essential equipment needed to have a home based recording studio.?

Posted: February 19, 2010 – 11:18 pm

Where you have good sounding music without spending a arm an a leg. If you can please be specific on products I should aquire.

if you want to do something easy wher you can just record through your computers microphone input jack just do a yahoo search for a program called audacity.

it is free and for non commercial use. you can buy a cheap radioshack microphone and do cheap lofi recordings that are awesome i use it to write songs all the time.
you amy also have to download a program called asio for all to make audacity work better but it is all free and will show you how recording programs work.

also there is a nother free online program called krystal.
with both programs you will have to adjust some tettings to record easily though. for example they both may have problems with a thing called latency which youmay have to adjust in the program settings.

look into it, before spending an arm and a leg on a program like pro tools
