WHAT LAPTOP SHOULD I BUY TO RECORD MY BAND WITH MAGIX STUDIO program? got any sugestions?

Posted: March 10, 2010 – 4:30 am

I’d like to purchase a laptop-using maxic studio on my computer at home and need a portable unit for my band-
however , I am reading where keyboards lock up on macs and their battery life is lower than advertised by hours.
What should I look for-hard drive-memory-etc-what is your experience- I would appreciate experienced input and thank you for it.
thanks Ubiquito…here is the article I was referring to-I’ve heard that I have to have the mac program- do you know what I need to program it with? thank you-
Apple’s release of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard appears to have brought with it battery drain and intermittent keyboard freezing issues, which are plaguing some MacBook and MacBook Pro owners. Numerous posts in Apple’s support forums for both notebooks detail an issue that essentially shuts down the keyboard at random intervals, and affected owners report having to restart or wake their systems if the problem doesn’t resolve itself in good time. Trackpads and external keyboards still function normally, however, as noted by AppleInsider.
Users attempting to correct the problem have gone so far as to reset the affected notebook’s PRAM (Parameter Random Access Memory) to no avail. Users also say they are still experiencing the problem on freshly-installed Macs, which effectively rules out third-party software as the culprit.
The froz

I’ve never had my keyboard lock up on my Macs and I’ve owned four of them. MacBook and MacBook Pro battery life is actually very good. It’s much better than any PC notebook that I’ve ever seen. For recording, you can’t beat a Mac. They come with Garageband, which has been good for my recording so far. Garageband is better than most of the recording software that I’ve used on PCs. If you do happen to need something more advanced, you also have Logic Express and Logic Studio. The best of the best. I’m sorry, but I would never recommend a PC for recording. The recordings I’ve been doing on my Mac sound so much better than recordings I’ve done on PCs.

How to make a serious recording studio

Posted: March 7, 2010 – 8:05 pm

Untill I get to making an ebook on how I made this , this is my studio in a roadcase. I designed and built this mobile studio for personal music recording. I made this video to inspire others that they too can make this very useful midi studio aswell. This a Protools (Mbox2Pro) set up with an Apple Macbook 2hz. It works fantastic. Within this roadcase are my Yamaha Hs40 studio monitors, my microphones and their stands..generally all I’ll need to record crystal clear music . Inside as well I have installed a 1 TB hardrive.

Soundproofing My Basement?

Posted: March 4, 2010 – 5:09 am

My house is split level so our "basement" does not have a door that closes it off from the rest of the house. There are just stairs that go down to it. My son has a people over a lot on the weekends and it can get pretty loud. I need a way to block the sound from coming upstairs. I was thinking some kind of recording studio foam but that seems pretty expensive, or some kind of portable or adjustable door. I have no idea and Im looking for suggestions.

Start with a DOOR. As long as there is just an open stairway, all the soundproofing in the world won’t help at all. You may be surprised at the difference the door alone makes. You don’t want a ‘portable door’, if there is such a thing. You want a DOOR.

Music Recording ~ Help Me!!!! :)?

Posted: February 26, 2010 – 12:40 am

I’ve recently written a load of songs and I want to record them onto a CD. But I don’t know what to buy. I want to know your opinions on what is better, computer software or the portable studios. I need all the advice I can get so please help!
Thanks :D

Try the program audacity. It’s free and you can record your stuff, save it and burn it onto a disk. Just search audacity on google and download it. All you need is a computer microphone and you’re all set.

Why is the quality of music playback getting worse?

Posted: February 22, 2010 – 9:14 pm

Anything to do with film/TV picture seems to be improving, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are materializing and HD TV is already here but where music is concerned nothing has happened since CD’s or SACD (Some people would argue that CD’s are worse than Vinyl). At the studio end they’re recording at brilliant levels 192Khz, 24-bit etc… but the consumer result seems to be a 128Kb/s MP3? It seems crazy! MP3 is great for portable music but when I’m at home I want to listen to the best that can be offered.

Unfortunately, it is down to consumer demand.

More people are concerned with how many tracks they can get on their nasty plastic toys, than how good the sound quality actually is. Additionally, music recordings designed for radio airplay are compressed to allow for the lousy musical reproduction of your average portable wotsit.

Hopefully, common sense will eventually prevail and people will actually start to LISTEN to music again, rather than just use it as a background to their lives…

Need a name for a business?

Posted: February 19, 2010 – 11:18 pm

Need a name for a business. We do live on location recording. BAsically if your band is have a show, we would bring our truck and record your show. A portable studio. Well I need a name catchy short, something that would stand out.
Preferably one word, nothing too cheesy, but could be comedic, I’m liking the responses already

The naming of your business could be one of the most important decisions you will make. A name’s originality and legal availability will create a real asset value of its own, as it becomes marketed and gains market acceptance.

The name you choose will become the focal point of all the benefits and features that relate to your business. Customers will be able to find and refer others to it in the future.

Since any names that are suggested here may already be owned by another party, I wanted to go a different route…

I suggest either hiring a name creation firm or get together with your friends and/or family and throw a "name party" & have everyone bounce some ideas around. Compile a listing of names that you like the best. Once you have that list, do as much free research as you can before you delve into comprehensive research.

I listed some links where you can do some preliminary name checking. However, please be aware that this is merely scratching the surface of what’s out there.

Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free & a great place to start, so I’d try them out first.

Comprehensive research consists of looking at marks that are similar in Sound, Appearance or Meaning in the pending & registered Federal AND State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files.

There are other sites that offer free searching capabilities in conjunction with their commercial services, so I’m not able to post those links due to the Yahoo! TOS. You’ll also want to check domain names & yellow pages, so simply do a search for "free domain name search" and "national yellowpages" and the appropriate links will pop up.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!
