Mic for home recording-Stuck between 2?

I have boiled it down between the MXL V67G condenser mic or the Shure SM57, I realize that both are different recording types, but am trying to figure which one I will be best off with all things considered.

Equipment

-M-Audio MobilePre USB Portable Audio Interface
-MBP with Garageband
-And I will be wanting to record melodic/folky/alternative-mainly acoustic guitar and vocals with this arrangement.
-Budget is around the 100.00 mark and really just want anyones advice on benefits in recording with both if you have any history or know anything about them.
-First time recorder so really trying to just know i will be alright for my first home studio set up…

I would go with the MXL between the two you listed. Although the 57 is a great dynamic mic the condenser will detail the style of music & vocals better IMHO.

Help on home recording studio setup?

ok, i have a basic setup, (audacity, keyboard) But need a bettter mic! I found the Behringer C1 which is a condenser for about £30! The reviews are good, but does anybody have this, or had experience with it? Also, would i need to get a small mixer, or could i carry on using the one i have? Im using a mixer with a built in amp, its designed for PA! ANd im using a portable keyboard, but would a midi work netter?

Any help appriciated!

The Behringer mic will need a mic nput with phantom power. You will have to check to see whether your mixer has this.

That is a great mic for the money.

A USB audio interface is a great way to record too. You will need one with phantom power too:

I have no opinion on the keyboard, but I would try it with the new setup before getting a new one with MIDI.

What are the boards called used in record studios?

They are kinda like walls but are portable and have a kinda carpet like texture. What are they called and where can i get them

Acoustic panels are easy to make. Just take half inch plywood and cover one side with self adhesive carpet tiles. Another material that works well is the foam matress pads. If you don’t need the portability, you can apply carpet tiles to the walls or install heavy drapes over the walls.
