It doesn't sound 100% real, but it is so much easier than trying to record real drums, its almost impossible to make real drums sound good. I just use garageband to mix the tracks, and I use a korg recording system. Also, I recommend one good mic for the singing, but you don't need anything too fancy for instruments.
